Why Social Media Can’t Be Your Only Platform

Preview

Social Media cannot be your safety net or the only platform you use to connect with your audience. The TikTok Ban in January this year (2025) was a huge wakeup call for many businesses, creators, and entrepreneurs. I mean, overnight your creations and source of income, just poof… GONE!

HOW TERRIFYING! Just like that, the lifeline of your income and business was shattered. With no other plan in place, it’s all over right? Had they not brought it back, it very well could have been the case for a lot of folks. So, here’s what you can learn from this world-wide incident:

  1. Create your own platform: What does it mean to have your own platform?

As a business owner, the first step I would suggest is creating your own website and buying a domain. Squarespace, for example, makes it easy and efficient to design your website to fit your branding/aesthetic, forms for prospects to contact you, pages with templates to build your landing page, testimonials, about us, showcase your portfolio, and more.

Buying a domain is easy and affordable. I pay $20 a YEAR for my domain space. Sure, you don’t HAVE TO have a domain that’s all your own. You may not even care that your URL says “mybusiness.squarespace.com” or whatever website creator you use. However, I’m here to tell you that it’s one simple and inexpensive way to give yourself instant credibility, strengthen your brand consistency, and build trust with your audience.

Can you imagine going to a website, and asking yourself: I am in the right place?

That’s exactly what your visitors will say if they can’t recognize your site. One of the first things I learned in business is CONFUSION leads to NO. So take the extra step to secure your brand identity.

  2. Social Media: Your Traffic Magnet, Not Your Final Destination

We've established that social media alone isn't enough. However, it's undeniably a powerful tool. Instead of treating it as your entire online presence, think of it as a dynamic engine to drive traffic to your owned platform – your website, your blog, your digital storefront.

Social media is your megaphone, but your website is your home base. Use it strategically to amplify your message and guide your audience to the place where you have full control. Stay tuned for a deeper dive into social media tactics in an upcoming blog.

Honestly, I’ve never had a TikTok account. Crazy to think in this day and age, right? So, when the whole world seemed to end for everyone, it was just another day for me. Why? I own my main platform, I’m in control of my content and not to the whims of third-party platforms.

If you are still operating on social accounts only, take the leap today to start your site and take control of your business and how you reach your audience! If you need help creating or simply want to delegate creating your website, schedule a consultation with me. I have designed and maintained many websites on different platforms such as Wix, Church Co, Squarespace, and I would be delighted to help you take charge in your business.

Let’s get to socializing purposefully ✨
